Where are we?

Hout Bay Backpackers is a quiet and comfortable backpacker lodge in the beach-side suburb of Hout Bay. Just 20 minutes from Cape Town, and easily accessible by public transport our hostel suits budget travellers wanting to explore Hout Bay (restaurants, harbour, beach, seal island, world of birds), discerning backpackers looking for a place from which to hike Table Mountain National Park or bike Chapman’s peak, surfers wanting to surf Llandudno and travellers interested in township tours and meeting interesting international volunteers working on community development projects with sister company All Out Africa.

About us

Hout Bay Backpackers is nestled just 20m to the beach and walking distance to the shopping centre, where a variety of activities are offered. These include surfing, fishing, diving, sailing, sea kayaking, hiking trails, top restaurants, wine and township tours, and if that's not enough there's loads of live entertainment! Local Volunteer projects and language courses available.

Directions

Driving from the airport:
Follow the N2 towards Cape Town, and take the M6 exit onto Rhodes Drive. Turn right at the M63 exit towards Kirstenbosch. At the T-junction turn right towards Hout Bay. Take the 2nd exit at the roundabout following the M63 signed for Hout bay. 3rd exit, Right at the roundabout onto Victoria Ave. At the traffic Lights turn left (Victoria Ave). Continue straight at the next round about and turn right at the 2nd roundabout towards the beach. Take the 2nd right onto Northshore drive - we are immediately on the right.

Driving from Cape Town:
Follow the M6 through Camps Bay and onto Victoria Road.Follow Victoria Road around the cliffs for 10km. Continue straight through the Traffic Lights. At the next round about continue straight and turn right at the 2nd roundabout towards the beach. Take the 2nd right onto Northshore drive - we are immediately on the right.

Taxi:
There are local Taxis (kombis) that leave from Cape Town Train station to "Hout Bay". Get out at the Spar and walk along Victoria Road towards the beach. Turn right at the 2nd roundabout towards the beach. Take the 2nd right onto Northshore drive - we are immediately on the right.

City Sightseeing Bus:
Our backpackers is conveniently located on the Blue route of the Cape Town City Sightseeing Bus. Hop off at stop 23, Mariners Wharf and walk along the beach towards the dunes. Turn Right up Northshore Road. We are on the Right almost straight away – you will see the Hout Bay Backpackers sign.
