Eshowe

Eshowe

Eshowe was the old capital of the Zulu Kingdom. Today, the “City set on a hill” is the bustling, but is still close to rural Zulu villages in the hills and valleys.

Activities and sightseeing in the area

Dlinza Aerial Boardwalk

Dlinza Aerial Boardwalk is 150m above the ground in canopy of Dlinza Forest. This is a great position from which to enjoy the flora and fauna and the views of the surrounding countryside.

Zululand Historical Museum

The museum is based at Fort Nongqayi, a three- turreted fort built in 1883. The museum houses the world’s largest collection of traditional Zulu arts and crafts.

Traditional Zulu Culture

The life of the rural Zulu is a blend of the modern and the traditional. Zulus may aim for mod cons like electricity and cellphones, but they still adhere to old beliefs and engage in the rituals of days gone by. Many traditional ceremonies are still held.
